Genre

Personal Favourite Genres:

I enjoy watching a various amount of genres. This includes Action, fantasy, sci-fi and spy films. This because it is action packed and full of twists and turns upon the narratives of the films. Mostly using Todorov's theory of order disorder order over a film or several.

Genre For The Task:

I've decided to do the spy genre. This due to how much i enjoy spy films suck as James Bond and Jason Bourne. This is due the action packed narrative of fights, car chases and technology. I will make this work for my opening scene by including short clips relevant to the spy film conventions.

S.W.O.T Analysis

S.W.O.T Analysis:

Strengths:

* I have quite extensive knowledge in media already allowing me to have an advantage in understanding some terminology.

* I am a great independent worker; disciplining myself and not allowing for  distractions to take place.

* I've had past experiences in using equipment and software relevant to the task.

* I enjoy watching films so making a opening sequence will be very interesting and entertaining for me.

Weaknesses:

*I am working by myself; therefore making it hard to get actors to help me make the opening sequence.

*The quality will not be to a high standard  as I will be mostly using my phone to film.

Opportunities:

* I will be able to show my creativeness by creating my own scenario for this opening sequence.

* Gives me more experience too.

* Test how well I can work independently.

Threats:

*Getting people to take part in my production.

*Recording the production.

*A lot of work to do independently

Filming Experience:

Filming Experience:

At Media City  I had some experience of filming; making practice projects heading towards the main BTEC task. I had a clip on my film of a video CV that I started:

The Task:

Create a 2 minute opening sequence to a spy film.

My Skills:

My media skills consist of many things. I have used industry standard cameras, lighting and sound equipment already at my previous college. I have also used editing software to create mini filming projects too with groups just simple cuts and creating a narrative out of the film used.So i have experience in the many aspects. I can also work in a team and co-operate well putting several ideas relevant towards the task.

Camera Angles:

*Close Up- Certain feature or part of the subject takes up the whole frame.

*Over the shoulder shot- Over the shoulder view.

*Wide shot- subject is fully showcased.

*Extreme wide shot- The view is so far from the subject that they aren't even visible. Often used as an establishing shot without a subject at times.

*Point of view shot- shows the person’s viewpoint.

*Very wide shot- The subject is barely visible but the focuses on them stood in the shot.

*Mid shot- Shows some part of the subject in more detail while still giving an impression of the whole subject.

*Medium close up- In-between a midshot and close up.

*Extreme close up- Immense focus on the subject.

*Cut in- Shows part of the subject in extreme detail.

*Cutaway- Shot of something other than the subject.

*Two shot- A Shot of two people.

Camera Movements:

*Arc- Moves around the subject.

*Crab- Side to side movement at a constant distance from subject.

*Dolly- Cart which travels along a track.

*Dolly zoom- Moves closer or further from subject while adjusting the zoom angle to keep the subject in frame.

*Follow- Camera follows subject or action

*Pedestal- Camera moves vertically up or down focusing on the subject.

*Pan- Horizontal movement in which camera moves left to right following the subject.

*Tilt- Vertical camera movement in which camera points up or down from stationary location.

*Zooming- Camera remains still but starts to zoom in on subject.

Use For The Task:

This is relevant for the final task as i have knowledge in my media key concepts from GCSE level as well as used some equipment and software already. This allowing me to make a good opening scene to an action movie as i can make it look professional as possible.

Previous Experience

Previous Experience:

Having studied Media Studies at GCSE level, achieving a B grade, I believe I have a sound concept of Media which I can expand on at A level. The GCSE exam was based around the Sci-Fi genre and the coursework focused on many different aspects of media, ranging from advertising to music. The exam required me to analyse several Sci-Fi films from high to low end budgets as well as create my own sci-Fi movie plot, movie poster and a story board of the movie plot.

Furthermore I also gained some experience having started a Film and Tv BTEC at UTC@mediacity. Unfortunately the course wasn't as I expected hence I opted to return to 6th form.  I have taken some knowledge on board from that experience and will use that knowledge in my A level studies.
